Category: Life at Work

Whether we like to admit it or not, for those of us working full time jobs it is likely we are spending more time at work than anywhere else. With this in mind, it can't be denied that loving our jobs makes life a whole lot better. So this begs the question; are you happy at work?

There are more than a few possible reasons to be unhappy at work; the pay is low, the people aren't friendly, the job is boring and so on.

Despite this, no matter where we work or what we do, there is always opportunity to create a workplace we can look forward to each day. But how do we do this?

Start by seeking opportunity to advance your career. Think about the business and what experiences or skills you can gain from it. Communicate with your employer and ask for the opportunity to learn about new areas of the company. This will provide you with a greater level of interest in the job and give you more motivation to be there.

In any job there will always be tasks we dislike and some we may even dread. This is a chance to challenge yourself by getting creative and thinking of ways to make these things fun. Coming up with new ideas to streamline a task and make it more efficient is a great way to improve the quality of your job and show yourself as a great asset to the company.

Like our own family, when it comes to colleagues, we generally have little or no power to pick and choose. Try taking time to find common ground in order to work better together as a team. Work suddenly becomes much more fun when we put differences aside and seek out commonalities. Most importantly, always remember to look at the bigger picture and gain perspective. In a world that's full of war, famine and poverty, we are extremely fortunate to have such minor troubles and great opportunities.

With all this in mind, start each work day with a smile and find enjoyment in what you do!
